end of a long weekend...
well it was a long weekend for me from sat till yest, mon. didnt put it up on my blog becos i was reminded of it only on fri after work... hehe.. if no one told me, i would have ended up in an empty office yest =p
it was a much needed rest for me... quite exhausted after so many weekends of no-rest. so for the whole of sat and mon, i stayed in my dorm and rested. on top of that, i am going skiing next weekend... so needed some rest! ok ok... besides the rests, i indulged in a bit of ps2 too, happy? =p but i must assure all of you that that is not the reason for not going out... hehe.
sunday, i went to tokyo dome for the first time in my entire life. i must admit the rollar coaster ride was quite good, at least till the ride ended. you know the feeling of exhilaration or nauseousness or giddyness sometimes you get after a good rollar-ride? well i had none of those after the ride (well yeah, granted i have a higher threshold for such)... so i guess it isnt a must-go. it was fun nonetheless, albeit a little expensive at 1000 yen per ride (16 SGD). i must add that in japanese, thrill rides are collectively called 絶叫マシーン [ぜっきょうマシーン], or scream machines... hehe... interesting =)
other than that, tokyo dome joined the ranks of all other jap spots i have been to. quoting simon cowell, the touristic values of it is equivalent to the performance of ryan seacrest; it looks the part, does everything right, but just disappoints. ;)
ok i have to be careful what i write in here, i have jap audience... (see my tagboard).. but hey i have to be truthful to my countrymen too right? ok lah, it's not that bad lah... at least i still think it's worth the trip...
there were some nice restaurants there, and 1 of them is a seafood themed restaurant named "Bubba Gump"... hehe.. nice... brings back fond memories of the great movie and san fransisco... i can't remember though, did we eat at Bubba Gump's in Pier 39 back then, or was it another restaurant? but anyhow, it was a surprise to see one here in Japan.
had tandoori chicken at jonathan's, a famiresu (ie. family restaurant in jap). was real good yum yum. went back with my fren to his house, and had some nice strawberries (first few time in my life, too polite to refuse).
yeah, and that's that for the weekend.
today, came across some interesting news regarding japan. first up, japanese is pushing for daylight savings... for all you know, soon i will be 2 hours ahead of singapore... if you have not heard of this before, you heard it first from me =)
the next one is somewhat amusing... haha... how about this? A Japanese youth who wanted to go to Tokyo's Haneda airport boarded a bus heading there before threatening to hijack it unless it took him to ... the airport. yeah, granted he was drunk, but still omoshirokatta nonetheless.. =D
today's 1 thing about Japan you thought you knew: ok so you have heard that there are some pretty useless ppl in japan (read: ppl employed to do useless stuff). ok so you dun think its queer that ppl are paid to hold advertisement signboards to stand by the pavements and do nothing else... best of all, the signboards usually can stand by themselves, ie. they mostly have bases like those you stick flags into in primary school (at least for mine). so they do nothing the whole day except holding them. even better, many of them are wearing full suits doing that. how's that for advertising?
update: photos!
here's a pic of the ferris wheel there and roller coaster going through the centre... pretty nice design i would say... anyway notice anything different with this ferris wheel as compared to all others? let you think for a second...
ferris wheel and "thunder dolphin" roller coaster at tokyo dome
ok so for those you noticed, well done, but no prizes... this ferris wheel is the first in the world that doesn't have a center, or rather doesn't rotate ard a centre point... interesting ain't it? but for what use other than originality, i dunno....
i shall leave tokyo dome for a second, and go to Koishikawa Korakuen now... my japanese fren Yasu, his fren Haydee, and I went there first before the park closed at 5 pm....
Koishikawa Garden
My fren brought me here to view a proper japanese garden... so nice of him... it is here where i saw some nice plum blossoms... check out my kodakgallery photo albums for that though...
actually this garden reminds me of central park in manhattan, not so much of their beauty and stature. it's like you are surrounded by nature and greeneries, yet at the background, you can still see skyscrapers and all (see above). of course central park still nicer lah.. haha... ;)
ok next we saw a group of gals dressed up rather elaborately in the garden.
guess what they are dressing up for??
answer coming right up!
ok these are their university graduation/convocation ceremonial dress! so nice rite? so original, unlike our boring and unflattering ones... a thing to add is that for guys, its just normal suits... as usual.. boring.
ok so here are some interesting shots from a traditional japanese room...
japanese garden view from japanese view
for those who are observant, yes this is actually a miniature structure! ;)
miniature... haydee's turn to take a picture...
ok now back to tokyo dome city... we passed by this interesting strip where ppl were getting ready for some anime cosplay party...
dun you just love cosplay? check out fma's Envy, and the guy behind checking out her butt... haha...
anyways we got up the center-less ferris wheel for 800 yen...
view from the top. the white turtle shell is tokyo dome... (now esplanade dun look that bad)
photos of the roller coaster from the top...
going up!
it's coming! here it goes!!!
aaaaahhhhhh!!!!
this roller coaster actually boasts 4G, 60 m drop, at an inclination of 76 degrees i think... something like that...
this is La Aqua, part of the Tokyo Dome City. where they have nice food, and an onsen here i think.
La Aqua - sunset
and here's Bubba Gump, as I was talking about.
Bubba Gump
Bubba (to Forrest): Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it.
