fun in the sun...
finally, the sun is becoming better at her job... yesterday it was comfortable enuff to be in a single T alone. today's temperature is about 11-17... so its pretty great =)
have been reading some of my frens' and other fellow singaporean blogders' blogs these past few days... looks like ppl in singapore are really having a fun time... i must clarify, not that japan is boring, it's great at all, however the company of frens is just lacking..
few reasons why singapore is more interesting...
ONE: back in singapore, i could like meet a jc fren one day, a hall mate another, etc. here, the pool size of frens is pretty limited to the 20 of us here (and maybe a few misc japs whom i have gotten to know, but highly doubt will ask them to go out with)... you get what i am saying? the "variety" is just not there*.. singapore 1-0 japan.
TWO: ok granted singapore not much places to go... common scenario:
A: "wan to go out or not? very sian..." B: "ok lor.. go where? do what?" A: "dunno leh.. also not much place to go... go town lor.. go there see got what to do lor.." B: "ok lor..."
well yeah, you might think japan is much more interesting, since bigger hence got more choices to choose from.
think again.
A: "ei.. wan go out later?" B: "got where to go?" A: "japan soooo big.. can go shibuya, shinjuku, harajuku, tokyo dome, odaiba, ginza, yokohama, blah blah... anywhere also can..." B: "ya, all can, but sian leh got to travel so far**. train fare also so ex... this month spend too much money liao***, i think go somewhere nearer lah..." A: "like that ah... then go where?" B: "kawasaki lor... go there eat liao then go back dorm bia game****..." A: "... ok lor..."
so in the end, also go back the same place over and over again... just like in singapore... still singapore 1-0 japan (this is tied).
THREE: topics of conversation.. ok this is a tie-in of the first reason... since you can probably pick and choose who you wanna go out with in sg, you will prob end up with some one you can talk cock, sing song, and even play mahjong with. in japan, out of the 20 mates i have here, dun really have anyone with who i have common frens... so harder to talk cock (i mean we usually gossip about common frens when talking cock rite?). mahjong here not as popular... even if got tiles also not allowed to play in dorm... ok not that we care, but the sound will prob cause some neighbours to complain about us (like the cooking incident). if muffle sound, no kick. so too bad. only can sing song. which my frens are already bored of hearing me sing liao =p (in case you are wondering, karaoke here for normal weekend nights is about 480 yen/half hour/person. that translates to about 7.50 SGD/half hour/person...)
yeah final score, singapore 2-0 japan... if only those were real world cup soccer scores... lol.*****
anyways, today's 1 thing about Japan you thought you knew: the sun over japan is not yellow or something... when kids in kindergarten here do coloring, they always paint the sun red.
* dun be mistaken, frens here are very dear to me... i love everyone of you here.. muacks.
** far as in ard 20 mins to an hour, for the locations stated. i always counter this by asking "in singapore, from your house until orchard also 30 mins + rite? so why the diff for here?" anyway, seems that a bigger country makes the distances seem greater as well... ah well.
*** some ppl often eat self-prepared sandwiches for meals here. i will ask "in singapore you also save money like that meh?" they will say singapore food is cheaper. then i will tell them in singapore less pay so less savings also. this will be brushed aside with "aiyah more pay now, so save more lor.." truth is out. is not spend too much money; just wanna scrimp... scrimpers...
**** ok lah, not all wanna go back chiong games... replace "bia game" with any of the following - rest, sleep, internet, talk to wife, save money, watch tv, watch anime... well you get the idea..
***** make no mistake, i am still enjoying my time here... well, sort of.
