cheering!
over the past weekend, i was part of the toshiba baseball's cheering contingent... hehe... they have inter-industrial competitions over here in japan, and they are competing to represent kanagawa for the all japan finals i think...
so toshiba got into the final game (tonight) which will determine whether she gets the 2nd spot to represent kanagawa-ken or not... the opponent tonight is the loser of yesterday's match between mitsubishi and nissan (winner of this got the 1st spot)... the progress of toshiba is of course due to the efforts of cheerleading by me ;p
now let me talk more about my experience being a part of the cheerleading contingent. i was of course not one of the cheerleaders... i was part of the band (i played the sax) which played cheer music for cheerleaders to dance and sing to.... yes, they have (rather professional) cheerleaders (both guys and gals), and no, they dun perform death-defying stuns like those in bring it on!
sidenote (to guys hehe) although none of the cheerleaders were very pretty, but they were cute while dancing nonetheless... hehe...
i was there for both saturday and sunday's game. each game lasted for 3 hours or so. i play during more than half of the time... it was tiring, and sometimes i got giddy due to the constant playing and it was sweltering... was sweating like pigs... but it was fun... everytime we got a homerun, we will all jump up to our feet and play the victory tune... haha.. the band was seated just in front of the cheerleaders, so i guess that added to the enjoyment as well.. hehe... ;p and no, i didn't get to see much of the baseball action... (because i was playing, not looking at the cheerleaders hor..)
before each match, there were prep sessions for the whole contingent (the band, the cheerleaders, male and female). we stood in ranks, all serious and most in sedia position, here damn enthusiastic prep talks (those you see in anime, the shouting kind), given red bull kind of energy drink to drink altogether. damn gao siao, but damn pro... haha... was really amused the first time it happened.
after each match, there will be evaluation sessions for the contingent as well, telling us how good our cheering was (that we spurred the team to victory and stuff), and to tell us to do even better for the game in the next day... haha... standing in ranks blah blah... same... (less the drink)...
took many photos, will promise to upload to here tonight or tomorrow night.... (really!), but that will depend on my internet connection first.... last nite and this morning, internet was down... super irritating...
anyway, sorry for the long post, hope it was mildly interesting for you who have read up to this point... ;)
