batman begins... and ends i hope
watched batman begins last nite. it was the highest vote getter here as well as among friends, so 6 of us (highest record here) went to watch together.
ah well, i sure hope they dun make any other batman shows, cos i think this movie sucked. let me explain here, and those who haven't watch it yet, hopefully, they will be convinced not to waste their money watching, or time downloading (for that matter)...
1. the build up was slow and boring. i mean, it was a good idea explaining how one became a superhero, but hey too slow and too long!! the prison and tibet bits that is.
2. not much good action scenes. one watches such shows mainly due to hopefully cool action scenes, but here? nay... in the tibet scenes, you feel you were watching shinobi instead of batman (and heck, he can't even do a double jump and spray surikens around).
3. the batmobile sucked big time. my impression of the batmobile is that it should be the epitome of cool, but here, its just a slow tanker... like my fren ivan said, it had GPS system, but the missiles dun have auto targetting and auto tracking... he had to get to a funny position to aim first... wah... and miss.
4. bad car chase. car chases should be exciting, no? car chases should be fast, no? car chases should end with either the chased party escapes by some radical driving or get caught, no? well here, he was driving a tanker which was obviously not very fast... heck even the police cars were faster. so he drive and drive but cannot shake them off... wah... so what he do? he entered a building's rooftop parking... wah... ok so you expect him to turn the tanker to a batplane, and fly away? wrong. so began the jumping from rooftop to rooftop sequence... wah... surely he can escape like that? wrong. helicopter still on his tail. and best part? he got back on the road, and find himself again with police cars hot on his tail... so what's the use of climbing to the rooftop and jumping around in the first place? serves no purpose at all. and then he activated stealth mode right in front of the cops, and amazingly, he disappeared just like that and lost them... he may as well do that from the start... no need to be so cham... haiz... bad bad bad...
5. romance. they hardly sizzled together. katie holmes was hot, ok christian bale too. but together? nay. at the end, after knowing he was batman, she kissed him (i am batman too, anyone wanna come kiss me??)... she said some crap that the bruce wayne she loved did not come back and stuff... and just when you thought she was dumping him, the next scene you see them holding hands walking about... wtf? you dun gettit? neither did i...
6. corny. and crappy. at the end batman said to the villain, "i dun wanna kill you, but i dun have to save you either." well that really sounded damn corny to me, at the very least, cliche. throughout the movie you see him using some weird rasp when he speaks whenever he became batman. at one scene when he roped a person up while questioning him, the way he spoke was super exaggerated. and that's about the only stunt (besides gliding) he knows how to do - "rappelling" (or whatever you call that) up and down. ok and another... his disappearing trick... super irritating... talk halfway, then disappear, talk halfway then disappear, like very cool like that he thinks... but no... if he wanna ask someone to do something for him, why can't he talk finish already then leave? must act sey leave halfway? this batman really act a lot of sey, but bo sey...
there are probably more bad points if i bother to think about it more.. but i guess the above is already bad enough... however to it's credit, i must add that, although few and far in between, there were some good scenes, such as..
1. there's a scene he spoke in chinese. damn hilarious. haha...
2. there's a scene he called for bats to help him camouflage... now that's cool... too bad only that scene...
3. michael caine, as usual, is terrific. but too bads too small a part he plays...
all these being said, ok lah, still kinda enjoy the time spent... i mean, it is still a movie... and it provided some good talking pts like the ones above.. haha... but seriously, dun think it deserves that good reviews i see around in the web... the person who said that this is the best superhero movie ever made has got to be kidding. spiderman and superman are still way way better IMO.
next week: 百万宝宝 hehe... think this should really be good bah... *fingers crossed*
