japanese law...
lately there were some crimes reported in news which cast some "interesting" light on the japanese law, and of course, their penchant for leniency. here are some cases of crimes of late and the jail terms dished out respectively.
master-mind in gang rape of 3 gals? -> 14 years 2nd-in-command? -> 7.5 years 13 other accomplices? -> ranging up to 10 years killing own 6 month old daughter? -> 10 years shaking a baby to death? -> 3 years smuggling drugs? -> 20 years killing an entire family due to drunk driving? -> suspended sentence (i.e. scot-free)
mind you, these jail term only applies to japanese offenders, so you foreigners better not do anything funny here, else you will see for yourself how fair the law system is here towards the foreigners (or rather the opposite...)
everytime i write about this issue, i feel like saying that would be the last time i wanna write about it... but it gets so sick sometimes...
Updates: an article here today describes a man escaping jail term for molesting his own 7 year old daughter, and sending the resulting lewd pictures to his paedophilic friends. reason why he got suspended sentence?
"It's a matter of course that your should go to jail. But then it's hard on the girl if her father is in prison. Don't ever do something like this again." -presiding judge
like he will... sigh...
and Japan's law system is ranked 3rd best (behind Hongkong and Singapore, thank goodness)... i wonder how they ever got so high up in the rankings... gosh...
